Are You Training Your Forklift Operators?

If your business owns a forklift, even if it's only a powered pallet jack, then your operators need to be trained.

OSHA Law 1910.178(L)(1)&(2)(i) and (ii) states:

(L)(1)(i) The EMPLOYER shall ensure that each powered industrial truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely.

(L)(1)(ii) Prior to permitting an employee to operate a powered industrial truck (except for training purposes), the EMPLOYER shall ensure that each operator has successfully completed training.

(L)(2)(ii) Training shall consist of a combination of formal instruction (e.g., lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, videotape and written material), practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace.

Thompson & Johnson Equipment Co. Offers
Operator Training For Your Business

We can tailor your training programs to fit your needs. Our Train the Trainer course allows you to develop one of your employees to become a trainer so that you can do your own training as you need it. Or, we can train your operators for you at your workplace. For information on our operator training programs, call Dave Bennett at 315-437-2881 ext.146 or e-mail dbennett@thompsonandjohnson.com.

3-Way Catalytic Muffler System Is Standard Equipment
on All Spark Ignited Engine Models

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted forklift emission limitations enacted by the California Air and Resource Board (CARB) on a national level. As of January 1, 2004, all manufacturers of spark ignited engine lift trucks must incorporate designs that limit Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX), Hydrocarbons (HC) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) within the following levels:

NOX + HC: 3 g/brake hp-hr

CO: 37 g/brake hp-hr

In order to meet the CARB/EPA emission levels, Toyota adopted a 3-Way Catalytic Muffler System as standard equipment on all Class IV and V spark ignited engine models.

As a result of this design's implementation, the TWC (Three Way Cat) and EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) lamps on the equipment's current display were replaced with a new Check Engine Lamp. In the event of an engine system / fuel system error or failure, the Check Engine Lamp will flash, notifying the driver that there is a problem with the system. The Check Engine flashing sequence corresponds to a particular error code, which can be found in the troubleshooting section of the Toyota Repair Manual.

Thompson & Johnson Proud to Represent Industry Leader

Thompson & Johnson is pleased to announce that one of our primary lines of equipment, Toyota Material Handling, has recently been named the Number One Supplier of Forklifts Worldwide. With total sales of $4.23 billion, Toyota has retained this position for the second consecutive year. We are thrilled with their accomplishments and very proud to represent the industry leader.

Toyota Makes Equipment Safer With SAS

Each year more than 68,000 forklift accidents are reported in the United States. This has long been recognized as a serious problem, leading Toyota to create the industry's first System of Active Stability (SAS).

SAS is an electronic control system that automatically monitors and controls over 3,000 key forklift functions. When it senses instability, SAS reacts before the operator can sense a dangerous situation, helping to reduce the risk of lateral tip-over, falling cargo and personal injury or product damage. Toyota exclusively offers SAS on its equipment, producing the safest forklift on the market.
