Employees Operating Forklifts Are Required to Be Trained
While
it is important to keep employees under the age of 18
from operating forklifts,
all employees who operate forklifts have to be
trained. Even part-time and seasonal employees have
to be trained. We have helped many companies throughout
New York, western Massachusetts, western Vermont and
northeastern Pennsylvania meet their training requirements.
Whether you need to have our trainer come in and train
your operators, or if you'd like to develop your own
"In-House Training Program," we can help.
Our full-time trainer, Dave Bennett, has trained literally
thousands of operators.
With
the changes in the requirements, most of our operator
training is done at our customers' locations. It is
not only important, but required to make the training
location and equipment specific (see OSHA Regulations
1910.178(1)(2) through 1910.178(1)(7)). Classes include
both "Classroom" and "Hands On"
training tailored to meet your requirements for applications
and equipment. Each class usually fills a day depending
on the number of attendants, their level of expertise
and the variety of equipment you use. Whether it is
because of seasonal employees, multiple locations, convenience
or employee turnover, many companies choose to have
their own trainer. Train the Trainer classes take about
the same amount of time and cover most of the same information,
but the information is tailored to help you develop
your own program. The programs can be held at your facility
or you can join a scheduled
class at one of our locations. Dave has a "Train
the Trainer Program" scheduled for Friday, May
15, in Syracuse. For more information or to schedule
training, please contact Dave Bennett. He can be reached
by phone at (315) 437-2881 extension 146, by fax at
(315) 437-5034, or by e-mail at dbennett@thompsonandjohnson.com.
When calling for more information or to schedule
a class, it is important to have the following information: |
- How many people need to be trained?
- When would you like to schedule the training?
- What level of experience do your people have?
- What kind of equipment do you want to cover?
(internal combustion trucks,
reach trucks, pallet jacks, rough terrain, electric
forklift, etc.)
- What is your application? (warehouse, lumberyard,
freezers,
manufacturing, etc.)
