As you can see, the number one OSHA citation is the training standard. This could be because the training was not performed, or the training was not conducted properly.

The number 2 and 3 violations listed above show that people actually drive a powered industrial truck that is not SAFE to use. This causes needless injuries to operators and pedestrians in the work area. The reason the daily or pre-shift inspection is performed is so you can find problems with the fork truck before it is taken into service and give the check sheet to a supervisor so these problems can get corrected.  If you do find a problem with your truck and are waiting for repair, please remove the key and follow your company’s Lockout/Tagout procedures.

OSHA’S intentions for these citations are to insure that the employer provides a safe working environment for their employees.  Please make sure you are doing the OSHA required training for powered industrial truck operators and pre-shift daily inspections. Failure to do so can result in loss of life, higher operating costs for your facility and OSHA fines.
